My Story
By Fidan Mahmoud
Life in Syria was hard because of the war. Students could not go to school. To live, the people of Syria had to leave, My name is Fidan. I am now eighteen years old. I left Syria four years ago because of the war. I went to Turkey but I did not go to school. Turkey did not give me a choice to go to school. No Syrian students were allowed in Turkish schools. I had to work and help my family. My family applied to the United Nations for immigration visas. We waited two years and got approved, but it took two more years to come to the U.S.
I came to America in May of 2016. America is very beautiful. I am so happy that I can finally go to school and learn. People in America are very kind and helpful. I am so happy in the school and I have made lots of friends. My favorite thing here is going to school. I live in America with my family; we are five people, and we are all so happy here!
Even though it was so difficult to leave my family, school, friends and country, the war made us leave.
It was not a choice.
I miss my country.
